
Engineering Gallium Iodide UV Lamps for Precision Textile Curing
We build Custom gallium iodide (GaI) lamps specifically for high-speed textile printing lines. Unlike standard mercury lamps, GaI tubes shift the emission spectrum toward longer wavelengths. This is necessary when you are curing thick ink layers on absorbent fabrics where deep penetration is the primary goal.
Spectral Output and Thermal Load
Gallium iodide allows us to target the 300nm to 400nm range. This spectrum triggers photopolymerization in specialized textile inks without scorching the delicate fibers of the fabric. You get a faster cure rate, but there is a trade-off. GaI lamps typically run hotter than standard UV tubes. If you are retrofitting these into an old curing tunnel, you must check your exhaust fans. If the airflow is too low, the heat buildup will warp your conveyor belt or cause the ink to yellow.
Build Quality and Customization
We use high-purity fused quartz to ensure the tube doesn’t crack under rapid thermal cycling. These aren’t off-the-shelf parts. We spec out the length and diameter to fit your existing lamp holders so they act as drop-in replacements. The electrodes are reinforced to prevent premature burn-out during frequent start-stop cycles common in short-run print jobs.
Integration in Printing Lines
When you wire these up, the stability of your ballast is what determines the lamp life. Voltage spikes will kill a GaI tube quickly. We recommend using stabilized electronic ballasts to keep the arc steady. For high-end printed fabrics, this setup ensures the ink bonds to the fiber instantly. This stops “smudging” and allows you to increase your line speed without sacrificing the print quality.
